Finally Home - NEW SONG

This week at Redeemer we're learning a new song called Finally Home.

Finally Home is a reworked hymn by a group called Enfield. The original hymn, "On Jordan's Stormy Banks" by Samuel Stennet was written in 1787. The Enfield group changed the melody and added a chorus which helps us summarize and respond to the truths in the verses.

You would be forgiven for thinking this is a modern phenomonem of taking old hymns and reworking the melody, but hymn writers have been doing it for centuries. As Christians recognized the riches of the lyrical content in a song written a long time ago, they rewrote the melody to suite contemporary ears, bringing new life to an old song, giving God's people a new song to rejoice in ancient truths.
